Beware! Refined Sugar Can Wreck Your Health











 Refined Sugar is a disaster for your health. We think that only our table sugar falls in that category of refined sugars but that’s not true. Refined sugars are added in many processed foods that apparently don’t seem to have any sugar in them. Intake of too much sugar is linked to many chronic diseases like Type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, etc. A leading cause of obesity is this refined sugar.

Refined Sugar is extracted through heavy processing from natural sources like fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts, etc. Our Table sugar and High fructose Corn syrup are 2 examples of refined sugar. 

Table Sugar is extracted from sugarcane or sugar beet plant. 

While High fructose Corn Syrup is made from corn starch with the addition of many enzymes to make it sweeter. They are mostly present in jams, ice cream, and soft drinks (including Diet Soda).


Risks Associated With Refined Sugar

These Sugars cause insulin resistance which leads to numerous diseases and metabolic conditions.

Some of them are mentioned here:

  1. Obesity and increased hunger. According to the ‘Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 42.4% of adults in America suffer from obesity. Obesity can lead to multiple health conditions such as heart diseases, diabetes, and can even cause death.
  2. Fatty liverBecause fructose directly goes into the liver for metabolism. Too much fructose will cause a burden on the liver and get stored as fat leading to fatty liver.
  3. Type-2 diabetes due to obesity which leads to insulin resistance.
  4. Heart diseases. Do you know that these are the number 1 cause of death worldwide? Consuming too much sugar can increase blood pressure and can cause inflammation. These conditions lead to heart diseases.
  5. High inflammation: prolonged inflammation can cause lasting damage to your brain, heart and other vital organs.
  6. Depression and anxiety: Because high sugar leads to hormonal imbalance controlling your mood.
  7. Other health conditions: Refined sugar is responsible for many health conditions such as premature aging, cancer, kidney damage, and dental damage.

Almost every kind of disease is somehow linked to this high consumption of sugar especially refined and processed sugar.

How to Avoid Refined Sugar

Try taking these things OUT of your diet.

  1. Energy drinks, soft drinks with soda
  2. Candy and cookies 
  3. Breakfast cereals with loads of sugar in them.
  4. Every processed bakery item.
  5. Ice cream 
  6. Canned items like beans and vegetables 
  7. Pizza and burger.
  8. Processed cheese.

Replacement of Refined Sugar

You can replace refined sugar with natural sweeteners such as coconut sugar, honey, or date sugar.
